Interesting thought

I have always loved solving puzzles. The twists and turns that my thoughts traverse to figuring out something have always fascinated me. One of my few regrets in this life was when I first applied for my cab license. After looking at my ' permanent record ', the policeman who gave it to me said, " Why don't you become a cop ?". That choice had never occurred to me. I didn't know how to respond, so I chose not to. It took me years to understand my mistake.
I realized that had I jumped through the hoops required of police departments, I could have been Columbo, Sherlock Holmes, or whatever the modern-day version of a solver of murders or crimes might be classified as.
Due to the odd way I grew up, I have no sense of the future or linear time.
Unfortunately, most police work in the late '80s was relegated to the war on drugs, which I considered nonsensical, fruitless, and personally, as I liked medications, dangerous both to my friends and me.
That being said...I completely forgot where I was going with this.
I had a thought, a puzzle or conundrum that I had solved or never considered before, and I don't remember what it was.
Note to self; Write down first about thought, idea, satori, and epiphany. Then write the backstory.
